Nursery News February 24-28

Dear parents.
During this week your child will learn about:
Theme: Farm animals and the words: duck, rabbit, chicken, goat, and, sheep.
In Math they will begin learning the numbers. This week we will work with number zero (0).

For show and tell on Thursday the students need to bring a toy farm animal. Please have your child practice the name, and one or two facts about his/her animal.

Nursery News February 18-21



Dear parents.
Thank you for your cooperation to celebrate Valentine´s Day. The children had a great time.
During this week your child will learn about:
Theme; Farm Animals and the words: Farmer, barn, cow, horse, pig, and, chicken.
Math: AAB patterns, The children will copy, continue and create and AAB pattern.
They will learn the song Old MacDonald had a Farm.
For Show and Tell on Thursday your child needs to make and bring to school an AAB pattern. . You can use stickers, pasta, buttons, pictures, etc.

 Important School Announcements

MIDTERM AND MAP REPORTS – please remember to sign and return the Midterm Reports that were sent last Friday. If you would like a conference, and one was not called for, please contact us as soon as possible.
DPTO MOVIE - In order to offer "The Lego Movie" to our school community in English, the DPTO moved the date for the movie to this Sunday, February 23rd, at the same time, 11:00 a.m. at Novacentro.  The current Tickets will work for this day. Once again, the DPTO apologizes for this inconvenience and hopes to see you at the theater then!

Nursery News February 10-13


Dear parents.
During this week your child will be learning about:
Theme: Friendship and the words: Valentine's Day, friend, love, candy, and share.
Nursery Rhyme:Skidamarink, I Love You. 
In math they will learn about patterns, the students will identify and copy an AB pattern. Please take a look at the following site if you want to know more about patterns in preschool. http://www.education.com/magazine/article/preschool-math-patterns/
In the month of February, we celebrate friendship. We will be discussing ways to be a good friend. The lower elementary children will all be wearing a bracelet this whole month to school to indicate that we are all good friends and the importance of it. Make sure your child wears this bracelet daily.

 To celebrate Valentine´s Day we are asking you that next Thursday February 13th Each student brings a special Valentine´s treat to share with all of their classmates.
This may be in the form of a card, a picture, sweets, or anything else that you would like to share.  This is a great time to involve your child in the process and ask him/her for ideas. Please simply write your child’s name on every card or treat. This way, your child can personally deliver a treat to each friend without having to read a name.

Please Read this Important Announcement:

CANDIDATE FOR HEAD OF SCHOOL VISIT – We would like to remind our parents that Mr. Robert Gronniger will be visiting our school as a candidate for the Head of School Position. Mr. Gronniger will be on site this Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11. There will be a Q&A Session for Parents on Tuesday, February 11, from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the school library. We encourage our parents to attend this session and seize the opportunity to ask questions to this candidate.

MIDTERM AND MAP REPORTS – The Midterm for the third quarter was last Friday, February 7. Midterm Reports and MAP reports will be sent out this Friday, February 14. Please review them and return them signed by Tuesday, February 18.

PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – The individual and class pictures for the 2013-2014  yearbook will be taken from Tuesday, February 11 to Wednesday, February 19. Please send your child looking his/her best on the day that his/her grade is scheduled. Merlin Pictures will be taking the photos and will be offering different packets of our students’ pictures at a very convenient price for parents to buy.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS!TODAY (Monday, February 10) is final date to purchase books online. The books will arrive at the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date. Please email Ms. Marilis (mzambrana@discoveryschool.edu.hn) if you have any questions.

MAP TESTING – This is week three (the final week) of our second MAP testing session for this school year. Reports will be sent home along with the Midterm Progress Reports on Friday, Febrary 14.

PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – The individual and class pictures for the 2013-2014  yearbook will be taken from Tuesday, February 11 to Wednesday, February 19. The specific day and time for each grade will be posted next week.

CHOIR PARENTS – On Monday, February 3, at 3:15 p.m., there will be a mandatory meeting in the school Library for parents of all Choir students who are planning to travel to New York City in June 2014 to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Information will be given concerning the trip and payments needed, and Important decisions about the trip will be made. We need at least one parent for each Choir student to attend this meeting.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS! - This month your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase books through the International Scholastic Book Clubs.  This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library.  With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of your children in our school. Order forms and catalogues were sent home previously. The final date to purchase the books online is February 10.
