Nursery News November 3-7


Dear parents: This week the students will learn about the five senses, they will do several experiments to learn how each sense works. The vocabulary for this unit is the following; See, hear,  touch, smell, and, taste.

They will learn to identify and name the color brown and the words: Bear, mud, log, potato, and, chocolate.
We will read the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? by Eric Carl.
For Show and tell on Thursday,  please have your child bring a musical instrument, if you don´t have one find any object around the house that makes a sound, e.g. wooden sticks, can filled with beans, etc. Be creative

Nursery News October 27-29




Dear  Parents.
This week the nursery students will review the concepts learned last week.
We will have two important events:
Book Character Day will take place on Tuesday, October 28th.  Your child can wear a costume on this day. All the lower elementary students will be having a costume parade starting at 8:15. We will also be Trick o treating on this day around our area. Each child needs to bring in one bag of candy. You can choose any soft candy, chocolates, gummy bears, lollipops etc. but they need to come Individually wrapped.

On Wednesday October 29, All the parents are invited to stay and participate in the annual U.N. Day celebrations here at school starting at 8:30 a.m.This is a very exciting day for all, where parents and children get together to learn about new cultures. 
Please Read This Important information;
       Our U.N. Day Celebration will take place on Wednesday, October 29. If you want to set a country up, or contribute with the organization, please let the DPTO know. 
·         There will be no school on October 30 and 31 in compliance to Congress’ decree for mowing the holidays this month.  Classes will resume on November 3
 BOOK CHARACTER DAYGrades 2-5 will be dressing as their favorite book character on Friday, November 7. The third, fourth and fifth graders will be hosting a Talking Wax Museum during second period on that day.

Nursery News October 20-24



 Dear parents: This week the students will learn about Parts of the body. they will learn the following words: Arm, hand, fingers, leg, feet,and, toes.

They will learn to identify and name the color black and the words: Bat, cat, night, spider, and, tire.
We will read the story "Clap your Hands" by Lorinda Bryan Caule
For Show and tell on Thursday,  please have your child bring a black toy animal.

Nursery News October 13-17



Dear parents, during this week we will cover the following:
Theme: Parts of the body. The children will learn the words: Head, eyes , nose, mouth, and ears.
The color purple and the words: Grape, egg plant, violet, plum, and, grape Popsicle.

We will read the story of the Gingerbread Man.
On Thursday, please have your child bring a purple item to school for Show and Tell.

Important Information
KUDOS FOR CREATIVE INSTRUCTION – This Wednesday, October 15Ms. Marisela and Ms Norma will be sharing the digital stories that the third, fourth and fifth graders created on Storybird.com The final products will be shared with parents during our Student Led Conferences.

SCIENCE FAIR- Our Early Childhood and Elementary have begun working on their Science Fair projects. Grades K-2 will work on whole group projects with their teacher, grades 3-5 will complete a packet according to established deadlines, and will work on this project at home. Elementary parents need to keep in mind the deadlines that are established for each step of the project.

 SENIORS BAKE SALE - The Senior class will have a bake sale on Wednesday, October 22 during snack and lunch recess.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS-
·         Our Student Led Conferences will take place next Friday, October 24. Conferences for the first quarter are mandatory at Discovery School. Parents will be contacted this week.
·         Our U.N. Day Celebration will take place on Wednesday, October 29. If you want to set a country up, or contribute with the organization, please let the DPTO know.

Nursery News October 6-10



Dear Parents.
October 10 marks the end of the first quarter. During this week we will evaluate your child's progress in school.
Please remember to review with your child the concepts and vocabulary learned. 
We encourage you to refer to last week's post when reviewing with your child at home, also take advantage of using the links that have been provided in the course of this quarter.Your involvement is very valuable to your child's success in school.


The content to be evaluated is the following:
Identify and name the colors: red, yellow, green, orange, blue and pink.

Your child should be able to name the vocabulary for each color and for the following themes:

My School: chair, table, lunchbox, bathroom, paint, pencil, scissors, crayon, glue, marker
Honduras:Flag, map, deer, macaw, pine tree.
Family: mother, father, baby, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather.

Important Announcements:


DPTO MEETING – There will be a DPTO meeting this Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. All parents who want to help out in activities that benefit our school and children please come and join us!


HOLIDAYS – We want to remind parents that our October Holidays will be on Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31.
