Preschool News March 28th-April 1st
Dear Parents:
Last week the students learned about “heavy and light”. The children did several exercises and experiments with different weights. One of the exercises they enjoyed was piggy-back riding; also they enjoyed sorting heavy and light objects with their eyes blinfolded.
I believe that you already saw the tracing activities we did in class during this past week. The main reason for doing these exercises is to develop good writing habits in the children. Vertical lines need to start at the top, and horizontal lines begin at the left side. Circles follow a counterclockwise direction. Please encourage these good habits at home.
This week we will introduce community helpers. We will be focusing on helpers within the healthcare community including: doctors, nurses, and veterinarians. We will have our very own clinic in the classroom for our dramatic play center and we need a doctor's toy set. If you have one, please let us borrow it. The children can leave the toys in the classroom all week.
Reminders:
Report cards were sent home on Friday. Please sign the empty envelope and send it back to school.
Next Wednesday April 6th is an early dismissal for all the students(11:45 a.m.) Teachers will be working on curriculum.

Dear Parents: Last week we had a great time making paper planes. The children made a model of a plane with cardboard. This week we are going to study boats and other types of water transportation. Please send an empty soda plastic bottle of 1 or 2 lts. To make an art project.
In reading, the students are becoming more confident in their ability to read two letter words. The pre kinder students are ready to begin reading three letter words. I will be sending you some exercises to practice reading at home.
In math, the students will learn measurement. This week we will talk about length and height and we will use the unifix cubes to measure a variety of objects.
Please remember FAMILY NIGHT IS THIS FRIDAY! It is going to be a fun filled evening with lots of good food, games and a special music presentation.
The Music department will be devoting their class time this week to constructing musical instruments for the BATUCADA SAMBA GRITÓN group presentation on Family Night. Please make sure that your child brings with him/her the following materials for your child’s choice of instrument by Monday morning: For Drums: An Large Empty Milk Can with its lid (preferably “CETECO” brand, but any will do) OR a medium size plastic bucket, AND a broom stick (with out the broom). For Maracas: Two small empty cans OR two small Agua Azul bottles. Please send your child’s materials labeled with your child’s name. If you have extras of any of these materials, please donate them to share with the children who may not be able to bring them. If your child has any stickers or drawings that they would like to use for decorating their instrument, please encourage them to bring them or put them in the bag along with the materials.
We hope you can all join us for a wonderful fun filled evening.

Preschool News February 28-March 4
Dear Parents:
This week we will study another type of transportation: vehicles that can fly in the air such as airplanes, helicopters, and hot air balloons. The students will make their own paper airplanes and will experiment with the design of a paper airplane and how far it can travel.
Next week we will continue our unit on transportation by studying boats and ships.
Next week we will continue our unit on transportation by studying boats and ships.
The students have been discussing about time and the clock. They talked about the importance of time. Most of them explained that the clock lets us know when it is time for bed.
The students have been working hard with their zoo phonics letters and sounds; and this week were introduced to reading two letter words such as: is, at, up, etc.. It was very amazing to see the pre-k students grasp this idea with ease. Please be sure to practice the sounds of the letters at home! We have also started to introduce writing of lower case letters and focused on l and i this week. Children should always begin their letters at the top because it helps them to visually structure the rest of the letter
